The Black on White Estambul rug, a pure simplification of the classical Persian rug, was designed by Spanish artist and designer Javier Mariscal for nanimarquina. The Estambul is a modern classic design that is hand tufted out of pure New Zealand wool, placing traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design in one product. The original sketch for this rug was a watercolor painted by Mariscal in 1987. The design transmits the basic outline of the classic Persian rug. Using this concept as a starting point, the design was then updated using unique patterns reminiscent of comics, synthesizing East and West, and placing traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design in one product, resulting in the iconic Estambul rug.

The Black on White Estambul rug, is available in a Black and White pattern that comes in two sizes (Medium and Large). These high-quality rugs are entirely handcrafted, which may result in slight variances in size. These rugs are hand-dyed and color tones may vary a little. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may alter rug color tone and may even cause discoloring. Shading or pooling effects may appear on cut-pile rugs. Depending on pile direction and the way the light strikes it, color depth and luminosity may appear to vary. Some rugs are woven from natural yarns made up of several different strands of fibers twisted together. In cut-pile rugs, these yarns may shed loose fibers when in use. Vacuuming your rug regularly will remove the fluff formed by these fibers. After vacuuming, loose fibers may appear in cut-pile rugs, trimming these with a pair of scissors is recommended.
