Overview

The Nantes silverplated flatware collection, inspired by an Art Deco drawing by Jean Puiforcat, is characterized by the stunning architecture of the handle: adorned with two straight fluted lines, its austere silhouette is softened at the tip by a symmetrical triple lobe. Architecturally, the composition of the stripes gives the design of the 1930s an almost postmodern appearance and is being meticulously handcrafted by the exclusive silver manufacturer. The elegant shape is marked by the distinctive fluting of the handles. While perhaps not immediately visible at first glance, the special charm of the "Nantes" cutlery is the serrated-style design at the end of the handles. It was the famous French "Petit-Beurre” biscuits that provided the inspiration for this enchanting detail. The well-known biscuit comes from Nantes, which thus appropriately lends its name to this Puiforcat Collection.

The Nantes silverplated flatware collection offered here includes a Dinner Collection (Fork, Knife, Spoon), a Dessert Collection (Fork, Knife, Spoon), a Fish Collection (Fork, Knife), a Salad Fork, a Tea Spoon, A Demitasse Spoon, a Butter Spreader and a Serving Collection (Fork, Knife). Boasting exceptional savoir-faire, the House of Puiforcat offers pieces of its heritage while imagining the classics of tomorrow. The Parisian silversmith Puiforcat is regarded as one of the legendary names in European silver craftsmanship.

The Parisian silversmith Puiforcat is regarded as one of the legendary names in European silver craftsmanship. The House of Puiforcat, the family company founded in Paris in 1820 by Emile Puiforcat and his two cousins, owes most of its renown to Jean Puiforcat, who established the company in the avant-garde of modern silverwork. Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945) was a French silversmith, sculptor and designer known in France as the "most important French Art Deco silversmith”. After World War II, the French artist apprenticed as a silversmith and a designer. He lived in Paris and St Jean de Luz and designed exclusively in the Art Deco style. His silver work had smooth surfaces and was based on geometric series. Ivory, onyx, lapis lazuli, and rosewood were used to decorate pieces of silver or porcelain. Among his many other talents, Jean Puiforcat excelled in graphic arts. Today, his drawings continue to inspire the contemporary creations of the Studio Puiforcat. Boasting exceptional savoir-faire, the House of Puiforcat offers pieces of its heritage while imagining the classics of tomorrow.
