Overview

Kala means “tomorrow” and “art” in Hindi. The kala rug collection is a collaborative project between Spanish entrepreneur and designer Nani Marquina and Care & Fare for the Spanish brand nanimarquina, which she founded. These cheerful modern rugs, depicting original drawings from students at Care & Fair schools in India, are hand tufted of pure New Zealand wool. The aim of the Care & Fair initiative is to support children’s creativity and imagination for a better future. The Kala rug is the culmination of the collaborative project between nanimarquina and Care & Fair, a partnership with India, the brand’s main producer. The Kala rug collection depicts the tangible fusion of two worlds through the eyes of children, a fusion that arises when beauty changes the world. Proceeds from the sales of this rug are donated to the organization to finance the Amita School in Bhadohi (India). A collection that will brighten everyone’s day.

The Kala rug collection is available in one multi-color pattern as a rectangular and as a round rug, that are both available in two sizes (Medium and Large). These high-quality rugs are entirely handcrafted, which may result in slight variances in size. These rugs are hand-dyed and color tones may vary a little. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may alter rug color tone and may even cause discoloring. Shading or pooling effects may appear on cut-pile rugs. Depending on pile direction and the way the light strikes it, color depth and luminosity may appear to vary. Some rugs are woven from natural yarns made up of several different strands of fibers twisted together. In cut-pile rugs, these yarns may shed loose fibers when in use. Vacuuming your rug regularly will remove the fluff formed by these fibers. After vacuuming, loose fibers may appear in cut-pile rugs, trimming these with a pair of scissors is recommended.

nanimarquina was founded in 1987 by Nani Marquina and has been dedicated to innovation and quality ever since, blending contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship techniques.

Nani Marquina

After studying industrial design at the Escuela Massana of Barcelona, Nani Marquina encountered success with her first bespoke textile designs. She launched her company nanimarquina in 1987 with a clear goal: to design unique and surprising handcrafted rugs. The idea of blending contemporary design to traditional rugs was well received and soon the company embarked on the adventure of outsourcing production to those countries that offered cultural value and unlimited possibilities for rug craftsmanship. Nani Marquina with her namesake brand was a pioneer in the field of contemporary rug design. Ever since its beginnings, nanimarquina has been searching for constant innovation, handcraft techniques, and new materials. Working with local and international designers to ensure a diversity of themes, nanimarquina continues to offer one-of-a-kind rugs.
