Overview

Mass Pendant by Norm Architects for &Tradition draws inspiration from the street lamps of New York, Paris and Barcelona with a characteristic cast iron top - looking a bit like a hat - and a semi transparent glass sphere at the base. The unusual use of solid marble for a lamp gives it an exceptional sense of quality and durability. Later, two other quality materials were added to the range in the form of copper and brass. The well-known shape lets you focus on the beauty of the materials, its aesthetic structures and colors. The body of the pendant is made from milled and polished marble or spunn & polished metal (brass or copper). The brass and copper versions are polished but not lacquered so the metal will darken and patinize over time. The glass shade is made from mouth-blown and acid-etched opal glass.

&Tradition reworks design icons from past masters and creates tomorrow’s classics in collaboration with contemporary designers, upholding the tenets of craftsmanship to produce furniture, lighting and accessories that meet modern needs for function, comfort and beauty.

Norm Architects is a multidisciplinary studio focusing on residential architecture, commercial interiors and industrial design. Norm Architects was founded in 2008 by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn, later joined by Linda Korndal. The essence of Norm Architects’ work is found in the balance between richness and restraint, order and complexity. A simplicity that carries bigger ideas. Guided by the body and mind rather than by trends or technology, Norm Architects’ projects explore ideas that not only look good but that also feel good. Architecture becomes thoughtful, minimalism acquires softness and visual matter assumes haptic qualities. Their work is sharp and crisp and reflects their focus on quality, details, and durability. Situated on one of the oldest streets in Copenhagen, Denmark, they build on the traditions of Scandinavian design of timeless aesthetics, natural materials and upholding Modernist principles of restraint and refinement.
