The well-known Midgard Modular Table Lamp was first created by Curt Fischer, a German industrial designer and engineer in the 1930s. Fischer’s designs were a particular inspiration to the seminal designer-architect Walter Gropius and the Bauhaus school, which laid the foundations of modernist design and architecture. Midgard modular lights were once affixed to tools in facilities including the metal workshop at the Bauhaus. Used by surgeons, architects and engineers for decades, the utility of this system lends itself as a helpful home addition. As in the past, the Midgard lamps are defined by superior functionality, superb workmanship and inventiveness. The Midgard modular lamp and its parts are produced in Germany using the original tools and techniques. Final assembly is made in Hambirg.

Midgard constructed the first articulated steering lamps, a true innovation at the beginning of the 20th century. The story of Midgard is associated with the Bauhaus movement. Right from the start, Fischer focused his full creative attention not just on each lamp as a whole but on every single one of its components. In architecture and product design, the avant garde was taking much of its impetus from the urge to modernise traditional ways of doing things. When the Bauhaus moved into its new buildings in Dessau in 1926, Midgard lamps were part of the interior. Masters and students alike found their precise, machine-like aesthetic both modern and motivating.
