Overview

The August collection of outdoor furniture by Vincent Van Duysen for Serax articulates the sheer simplicity of the monastic life they were inspired by. Vincent Van Duysen: “Furniture should never clamour for attention, it should become one with its surroundings, unnoticed. It is the users who add colour.” The wider, slightly lower proportions are of this day and age and contribute to modern day comfort. Made of aluminum, the chair, armchair and table are lightweight and easy to move around. They can used indoor in a casual chic interior.

The August collection by Vincent Van Duysen for Serax is made of aluminium and it is available with a black or grey-green powder coating. This makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The chairs, lounge chair, and table articulate the sheer simplicity of the monastic life they were inspired by. The wider, slightly lower proportions are of this day and age and contribute modernday comfort.

Serax Philosophy is to look for beauty everyday, “to bring the good things that make life worth living, the things that create a home that inspires happiness”, to offer products that have soul. Every collection is crafted traditionally.

Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen (1962) is one of Belgium’s most acclaimed architects, interior designers, and product designers. Born in Lokeren, Belgium, in 1962, he graduated from the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint Lucas, Ghent. He started his career collaborating with Aldo Cibic and Jean De Meulder, then established his agency in 1990. The relationship between architecture, interior and product design has been a driving force of his projects, combined with a search for the essence. In his work, the use of pure and tactile materials results in a clear and timeless design. His approach respects context and tradition and puts the physical experience of space, materials and light at its core. Functionality, durability and comfort are prime components of his work. His architectural language is not shy of aesthetics, but resists fashion and trends. During his career, Vincent Van Duysen has received multiple awards among which recently the ‘Flemish Culture Prize for Design’ and ‘Belgian Designer of The Year’. In 2016, he was appointed Art Director of the Italian brands Molteni&C and Dada.
