Overview

Tembo is a sculptural stool created in 2012 by Note Design Studio that combines a wood metal body with a solid cork seat. The designers drew their inspiration both from the African tam-tams -Tembo means elephant coot in swahili- and from the Memphis group of the 80s. Tembo was originally part of the Marginal notes exhibition held by Note Design Studio collective as a creative stunt. The concept was to produce in real life the various doodles and ‘marginal notes’ that the members of the group had in their notebook, however crazy they might be.

Note Design Studio is a collective of architects, graphic & product designers established in Sweden in 2008. Their style combines the elegant simplicity of Nordic design with a playful and almost naïve identity. La Chance gives a contemporary interpretation of the ornamental and decorative French furniture tradition rooted in the Art Deco period.
