Overview

The Tones collection, designed by Spanish artist Clàudia Valsells for nanimarquina, is a contemporary revision of the traditional rug through color and simple shapes. The designs are meant to bring you into living with the rug instead of solely being a spectator. The collection features an infinite wealth of shades, highlighting the chromatic harmony reminiscent of musical notes. Valsells typically paints on murals, with the Tones Collection being her first time moving over to this new medium. The Tones collection has been developed using two techniques that provide differing finishes and sensations. The hand-tufted technique allows Clàudia Valsells' work to be transferred as is on a blank canvas. The ancestral technique of kilim provides an aged and irregularly woven appearance by using Afghani wool, which gives it a different feel.

The Tones collection is made up of four rug models (which can be either in a hand tufted or kilim rug) that provide a distinctive, harmonious, rhythmic and sensitive approach, with color as the central tool. The Tones 1, 2 and 3 rugs provide a delineated graphic color juxtaposition, while the Tones Pieces rug is more a collage of color elements on a light canvas.

nanimarquina was founded in 1987 by Nani Marquina and has been dedicated to innovation and quality ever since, blending contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship techniques.
